Nana’s Irish Soda Bread

I am exactly one week late in making this Saint Patrick’s Day delight, but since this Thursday I am no longer busy drinking Bailey’s and falling asleep early, I thought I’d bake a batch.

This past Christmas, Aunt Patty gave out “starter kits” filled with all the non-perishable essentials that go into her mother, my Nana’s, iconic Irish soda bread. Aunt Patty is the queen of great packaging and my long-time aesthetic role model, so I had to include pictures of all the portioned out ingredients and handwritten recipe (plus cute green bakery string! She thinks of everything.) My favorite quote from said recipe:

“There was never an exact measurement for the raisins. Nana told me her mom would say Don’t make it look as if you threw them in from the kitchen door…in other words, don’t skimp.”

Thanks Aunt Patty, and Erin Go Bragh!
