My little sister Elizabeth makes these insanely good dessert morsels that are enticingly named “Velvety Balls.” In her version, she combines crumbled red velvet cake and cream cheese frosting, rolls the mixture into little spheres and then dips them in chocolate.
Voila, Velvety Balls.
Lauren and I were inspired to create our own version but with a different flavor profile. We opted for yellow butter cake covered in tangerine buttercream frosting, dipped in Valrhona dark chocolate and topped with a candied kumquat.
Voila, something a little snootier.
